Is a 2006 Honda Element 4WD EX a good car for me?

Hi all, I'm looking into getting the car over. I live on my own (so you do not need a large car), but I'm a person being outdoors (long drive trails, camping etc.) and live in New York so they need a car that can take the driving in winter. In addition, once every few months usually take a long car ride (a unit of day) to see family. I'm being offered $ 1000 down to about $ 350 months to purchase payments.
