honda civic engine question?

this may sound like a dumb question, but when I slam the gas pedal to the ground the car accelerates real fast for a second or two then it stays the same speed for a half second. then it takes off three times as fast as normal. almost like nitrous would do. I was wondering what makes this happen. it not a v-tech.

your gas pedal is really not tied to the fuel injectors, it actually controls your throttle plate flaps to allow more air into your throttle intake - you might also think of it as an air pedal.

when your sensor detects more air inside your throttle intake, your computer performs some calculations based on factors from other sensors to determine how much gas to release through your fuel injectors.

so your computer ultimately controls how much acceleration or fuel your car will release into your engine. and if the foot on your accelerator pedal doesn't seem to coincide with your acceleration, then it's your car's computer controlling your acceleration or simulated nitrous behavior.
