The IMA indicator came on in my 07 Civic Hybrid, what problems does this indicate?

I immediately brought it to the dealership on Saturday, but since it was the weekend, they gave me a loaner and said they would call me on Monday to tell me what's wrong. I have less than 2500 miles on the car, so I'm very concerned. It didn't seem to be running any differently. Has anyone had any similar problems? Did you end up having to pay for it? I've had the car for about two months now, so I really think I shouldn't be responsible if something goes wrong with it. What do you think I should expect to hear?

You have 2500 miles, so your Civic will be under warranty, assuming you didn't jump over a curb.

Which Integrated Motor Assist light came on? The gauge telling you if the IMA is providing boost? Or one of the check engine lights?

If the IMA was having problems, the check engine light would also come on. This is to make sure you really notice something is wrong. Did a check engine light come on, and if it did, did it flash?

When a check engine, or any dash light, comes on and just stays on, that means you need to have the car looked at, there is a problem. If the light comes on and flashes, that means pull over and shut it off immediately, there is a serious problem.

Did either of those occur?

The IMA will light up in various colors and in various ways to show how it is boosting the gas engine.

Your Civic has a series of "black boxes" that record everything that happens with your vehicle that is outside of factory specifications.

For example, if you put gasoline with more than 15% ethanol into your tank, that would set off a code in the main diagnostic box to record that the gas engine is not running properly because the ethanol content is too high. Hondas and Toyotas do not run E85 or anything higher than E10 (10% ethanol and 90 % gasoline) because ethanol lowers your gas mileage. A gallon of pure gas will take you farther than a gallon of E85 because ethanol is grain alchohol and does not have the energy density of pure gasoline (granola bar vs fruit rollup).

The dealership will run a diagnostic on your Civic through the black boxes first, to see what codes may have come up. If there is no damage to the Civic, it may be a simple as a new set of codes for the system, a faulty sensor that needs to be replaced (that's what happened to me, a faulty oxygen sensor), or it may be simply how the system works normally and, don't take offense, it may be that you've never noticed a light sequence like that before.
