1983 Nighthawk Honda
Having trouble with the lighting and high revs at idle on my Honda 550 Nighthawk 1983?
Hey! I have a new bike for me, I just out of winter storage and I'm having a few probs I'm hoping to settle without going to a mechanic. 1. There seems a poor connection in the Contact: when you turn the key, lights and accessories and general electrical system goes on the bike only once every 20 turns of the key or something ... or just when I'm lucky. Once the bike is that it starts and works fine, except ... 2. Sometimes when I ride the bike a bit and then come to a stop with the clutch engaged, the high revving engine, up to 4000 or so, with the throttle is not open to everyone. There is then nothing I can do to keep the engine idling again, without touch the switch to kill. 3. The neutral switch is a bit sticky at times, I'm going to be stopped, trying to put first, and the team simply not going to change ... Thanks for your help! Steve
Nighthawk line had problems with the ignition switch. Electrical contacts would result in consumption and electrical failures intermittent. You can replace electrical contacts of the switch 650, but the model - the power switch everything has to be replaced. Search for a collector exhaust air intake. For more air which causes the motor to rev itself. You bike is a little old - collectors, gaskets and O-rings could be dried and leakage. When the engine is reving, spray WD40 all over and around the collectors, especially where it joins the engine and carbohydrates. If the change of RPM, which found a leak. Then, carbs synchronized. If one or more lean adjusted, or the speed of a carburetor is adjusted higher, or a throttle slide sticking in carbohydrates, affecting inactivity.
